On Friday last week, a group of sports leaders ranging from year 8-10 went to Maysebrook leisure centre to host a sports day for children with special needs and what a day it turned out to be. All the children were getting involved and doing their very best at every sport.
There were loads of sports on offer such as wheelchair basketball, archery, football and boccia. This amazing day focusing on getting kids into sports was a massive success, also BBC news were there to look around and film the kids and even got some footage of some riverside students helping to run stations such as archery and wheelchair basketball.
As the only leader running the archery station, helping the kids was such a pleasure as they adapted so quickly to the lack of target and cheered each other on no matter what they hit, whether it was myself while collecting the arrows or the middle of the board all the children were so supportive. There was no difference when it came to all the other sports, no matter what the result of the game or the people they play against each and every child showed great sportsman ship. Every participant was happy at the end of the day and received their own medal which just made all the children ecstatic and just the right way to top of the day.
